Rossville, TN - January 18, 2010 - Rider JR Schnabel and the rest of the Memphis Shades Yamaha team were preparing this weekend for the upcoming 9th round of the World Championship ICE Racing Series on January 23rd in Bloomington, IL. JR and the team are hoping to continue their streak of podium finishes, the most recent of which was the Loveland, CO round, where JR ran bar-to-bar with current point leader Jared Mees, and took second overall. JR is also hoping to continue his personal winning streak in Bloomington, where he has never lost a race.
The team will be making some changes for Bloomington, including a shift to a whole new bike for JR. The new bike will be the same one he rode during the 2008 AMA Grand National Dirt Track Championship, but modified to run on the ice. When asked to comment on the change, JR cited his performance in Loveland as the primary reason for the switch. "The bike felt low on power throughout the whole race. We didn't adjust the jetting on the carburetor for the altitude, and that hurt us in the end." He also reported that he was having difficulty maintaining speed through the turns due to traction problems. "We're racing on a hockey rink, so those corners have a pretty tight radius, and I just didn't feel like I could take the corners the way I wanted to."
With the new bike and the continued support of his sponsors, JR is looking forward to another great race on Saturday. "I just can't say enough about Memphis Shades and all my other sponsors: K&N, Saddlemen, Reiman's Harley-Davidson, Moose Racing, Motion Pro, Arai, MSD, Web Cam, Millennium Technologies, Works Connection, Cometic, Alpinestars, Wiseco, G2, Rekluse, Smith, Maxxis, Royal Publishing, Pro Plates, and Gene and Gail. They've all been great, and have shown a real commitment to the sport and to me."
